The IPOD touch and my brains

Filed under: Technewlogy, gizmo drool — KarTic @ 4:50 pm

Mmmm . not that you guys havent heard enough already ,however the marvel of a product never quite gets to witness its ebb,be it raving about is pros or brooding over its quirks … In any case the ipod touch definitely did manage to steal my thoughts this morning especially after I had managed to absorb a ,some what consumate ,review yesterday…..

Frankly I dont remember much of what i read how ever there were certain exhilarating aspects and certain other glaring drawbacks that did manage to stay back and work the neurons in my brain…… to start with i was totally in awe with its brilliant looks and the way apple just about blatantly jettisoned their iconic click wheel and got in place the touch screen that seemlessly assumed most of the space over the classy tablet.Oh yeah there is this one black corner that plays host to the newly incorporated wi-fi antenna … So by now we should have come to terms with the fact that the ipod touch , apart from being a music tablet has nothing more in common with the other ipod (now subordiante : )) classes.
The other fascinating aspect is the concept of cover view which truly is astounding ,especially when one actually comes to experiance the awesomeness within a palm size device.Yes ! the cover view sequesters the sectored display of music in the form of cd racks, which if selected would display the songs to tap and play ….this cover view would obviously entail a lot of detailed work especially those dealing with artist names , album information et all.How ever guess a lil bit of extra time to consume a delicious piece of cover view would find its worth more often than not .

Oh yeah ,how could I have not mentioned the rubber band effect yet ! scrolling through the playlist with a flick of the finger would be the obvious resort ,one would guess, considering the touch mode that the touch works with . However the techies at apple decided to do things a wee bit cooler by gettin in the rubber band effect where in the intensity of the flick would determine the extent of scrolling and as it slows down towards the end the list would bounce back of the edges .How cool is that :) … If the songs dont keep you entertained enuf already, fooling around with this surely would :) ..

Mmmm disc mode … this is sadly a negative that i just remembered … there is no disc mode so no fiddling around with the device in explorer or throwing in our indispensible rubbish into the pod .Now thats a definite score for the subordinates isnt it ? so transporting files .. out of the question guys …:(..look else where ..
Now getting onto wi-fi .. now thts a definite woo from the Touches side .Along with a player we got ourselves an on the move internet tablet … The device hosts a safari browser that does not support flash though ,so certain sites might miss out ,however the very thought of having the WWW within the grasp of ones palm, and on a brilliant display of the Touch screen, surely gets one intoxicated. Zooming in and out accounted for by gesticulated actions of pinching and release respectively..
oh yeah the keboard is also incorporated as on screen one which one is bound to get used to with usage.
mmmm What else do iremember … no Ctrl-C Ctrl-v,No physical volume controls ,limited space models (8Gb and 16 Gb) and pricy … oh yeah its a lil priced up as the 16 Gb model costs around 23000 Rs with bill .. well they dont say pretty women and classic gadgets weigh on yer pockets for nothin . do they ? :)
guess thats about all that i can squeeze out from my head for the time being .The above is not exactly a review but guess i touched upon certain aspects that an anxious buyer would look for ..especially since each of the above details managed to latch on to my senses , i would think attribute some relevance to it…
Bottom line … If u got it .. savour it .. else go get it … if not atleast desire it … :D
so long … :)

Wi-fi as in Wi-fi alone ( for u , me and all)

Filed under: Technewlogy — KarTic @ 3:19 am

well …. Wireless fidelity or more so commonly known as wi-fi might seem to be something of a daunting usage when one is not very sure about what exactly dangles around this technology.Well in this blog post i have resolved to eschew using any of those words which others might not be aware of or those which i myself am not aware of :) .
so getting back to wireless-fidelity …. well ahem wi-fi ,now one would tend to wonder ,why so much of a craze or frenzy is suffused within these four letters and a hyphen?why are people digging holes into their pockets to get their surrounding in sync with this technology?
first and foremost , people arent quite digging holes into their pockets in order to enter this wonder world ,how bout that .. What if just 4000 odd rupees would suffice to get the utmost pre requisite inorder get the daunting four letters linked up with our house hold?
Well to begin with WI-fi is essentially getting rid of wires and using all the juicy wifi enables devices that range from brilliant to awesome widgets to make our lives all the more wontechful .This does in many ways give rise to a consumate paradigm shift where in one way would no longer require one to base ones life according to the relative position of his desktop at home.A wi-fi enabled zone is like a unique world on its own where various devices are attributed a soul each and are allowed to communicate inorder aid their almighty lord ( us :) )
Moving on to answering a common question .. how do i set up this wi-fi environment into my house ?
well all it requires is a wi-fi router ,a broadband connection and a good load of wifi enabled devices ( to have fun and more ).This wireless router is essentially the heart of the environment to which we connect the broad band connection from the ISP.This router essentially contains 2 IP’s .
1) internal ip
2) external ip
The external ip is the one from the ISP which is used to connect the router to the matrix world( my way of callin the world wide web :) ) while the internal ip is the one which is used to connect to our wifi enabled marvels .
The router thus acts like a gateway which conects our small network shared by disparate devices to the world outside and beyond
This router comes in various models ,however the one that we would opt for for our homes would become available for just abour 3500-4000 Rs. :D ( thats how close we are to Wi-fi.

Now that i have eased the roughage into ur system ,guess its high time we start talking fun.
Well first with the router all good to go we would find our selves satring at our old desktom which in many ways seems anachronistic with the subject of this article. How ever as per better understanding old is gold if we could just clean it up a bit :) . So all we have to do in order to get our desktops to be wifi enabled is to plug in a wireless PCI wifi card into a free PCI slot or we could just temporarily disconect our dvd/combo drives to give way for this new marvel.

Now in a wi-fi environment each device would bag a DHCP ip from the router which identifies the various souls in the 7th world ( wi-fi world).
now moing on to the various devices which are definitely worthy of a mention are :
( i am jus tgivin a brief mention for further deatils feel free to contact me or use the matrix world :) )
1) the music bidge ( my drool device)
This is essentially a device which lets us play music from our computer using our system some where close to being far away from our somputer :) .
Well this music bridge is to be connected to our amplifiers ,or speakers or music systems .Any digital data processed by the sound cards in our sytem is sent as a digital stream through the wi-fi network .This digital data is then converted to an audio format which is then gobled up by our music systems .Isnt that luscious.
2)wireless printers
3)wireless cameras /inetrnet cameras -
This could actually be controlled and used from across the globe through the internet … :D
4)
Pinnacle PCTV To go ( cable tv without cables )
5) et all :)

For a bystander lets just get a glimpse at how light our pockets might get due to this
( with very minimal details and apprioximated)
1) wireless broadband router -around 3500-4000 Rs
2)wireless music bridge -6000 Rs
3)Wireless PCI Wi-fi card 2000 Rs
4) wifi enabled phone (UR WISH :D )
Well this was just a brief intrductory insight into how close wi-fi actually could get to your world …. so feel free to post back about anythin regarding anythin …. :D
also get you hands on the nov version of chip magazine which contains a good load of information regarding Wireless Fidelity ( guess i could use this now )
:D
